- One very handy utility node that we have in V-Ray for 3ds Max is the Multi Sub Tex map that can help us add both variety and detail to a scene in a very short space of time. And whilst we will only look at two very quick uses for the map in this particular exercise, the creative ways in which it could be utilized are many indeed. To see how this map type works. Let's open up the material editor, where what we have in the scene is a number of Jelly Bean objects that have all had this multicolored V-Ray material applied to them. Now, of course, despite its name, the material is using just a single pinkish color in the diffuse channel which is all that the V-Ray material on its own can use. Hence, what we see in the viewport.
