- In real-world photography, larger scale subjects, such as automobiles, furniture, and equipment, are too big to fit in a lightbox. Nevertheless, we need to light these subjects evenly and with an eye for aesthetics. To satisfy these conditions, it's common for a studio to be painted white to maximize diffused reflections. Essentially the whole room is a lightbox. White diffused surfaces absorb very little light, reflecting it back into the scene. The light then scatters and suffuses through the space, providing even diffused elimination. The floor may be painted black to prevent too much bounce light from below. Getting good specular highlights on a large, glossy surface, such as car paint or metal, can be very challenging. The surface has little or no roughness, so it produces sharp mirror reflections. We can't expect to see much of a highlight with a standard light, such as a studio spot or flood. To produce a large highlight on a large glossy surface, we need a correspondingly…
