White balancing for AOVs
- [Narrator] As I mentioned in an earlier movie, we're going to render separate components, such as diffuse and specular to individual AOV files or arbitrary output variables. Remember that AOVs do not support exposure control. The assumption on the part of the Arnold designers is that we're going to be colored rating our AOVs in post-production anyway. So there's no scenario in which we would want exposure control apply to AOVs. And generally speaking that's accurate. However, there is one issue with this assumption, white balancing is not necessarily easy to accomplish in post. Some compositing programs don't have a built in method for accurately adjusting the color temperature of a rendered image. In this case, we might choose to white balance the 3D scene instead, and we'll basically burn our color balance into the image. In some 3D applications supported by Arnold plugins, such as Maya.
