Working with 3ds Max projects

- [Instructor] If you have access to and are planning to use the exercise file download provided with this course, then you can unzip and place the provided files on any storage device that you like using the unzip instructions provided but if you would prefer to follow along using the exact same steps that I take in the presentations. Then I would recommend using those same instructions to place the exercise files folder on your desktop as I have. In fact, let's quickly walk through doing just that by unzipping the spand archive that you will have downloaded as a single seven zip file. Now I have used seven zip here simply because one it provides a much smaller archive than using a zip file alone. And because two, the application is free. This being downloadable from the 7zip.org website. The process is quite straightforward here as all we need do is right click on the seven zip file. And then from these seven zip fly out choose the extract files option. In the extract two section we will need to browse to and select our desktop folder. Assuming that is where we are saving our files. Making certain that the name field is set to read, just exercise files. Everything else can be left at default except we do of course, wants to make certain that we get no duplication of our root folders name. In other words, we don't want an exercise files folder inside another exercise files folder. After which we can click, okay. Once that is done and in order to have us frustration free at time as possible when using the provided scene files it is also important to note that they have been set up using through 3d S max built in project management tools. In other words, we've made use of a very specific project folder setup in order to give ourselves quick and easy access to all of the scenes and assets from inside max itself. To ensure that we can all take advantage of this file managed setup then what we want to do in this exercise is quickly walk through both setting up and then making use of the project folder for this course. Which we can do by accessing the file menu from inside max and then from the project fly out choosing the set active project command. After which we can navigate to wherever we have saved our exercise files folder and then set that as the root folder for our project by selecting it, and then hitting the select and OK buttons. As an alternative approach, we could just open up one of the scene files from the course, and then in the project mismatch dialogue that should show up choose the change project option and max will do the rest for us. What we will find now is that whenever we use standard application functions such as open save, and indeed when setting up render and render element output paths, we will be taken straight to the appropriate folder in our project route.
