Working with 3ds Max projects

- [Instructor] The 3ds Max scene files that we will be using in this course have been set up using Max's built-in project management tools, meaning we have made use of a very specific project folder in order to give us quick and easy access to the provided scenes from inside the application. To ensure that you are ready to take advantage of this file-managed setup, we are going to quickly walk through both setting up and then making use of the project folder in this video. To do that, with our cursor over the 3ds Max viewport, all we need do is hit the X key. And if using 3ds Max 2018 or earlier, type P-R-O-J in the search field and then choose the Set Project Folder option that appears in the list. Or if you are using a later version of Max than the base 2018 install, then we will want to type C-U-R-R and choose the Create from Current command, with both of these options opening up a dialog that lets us select any folder on an available storage drive and then set that as the root folder for our project. In this instance, I will want to locate the downloaded Exercise Files folder, which for convenience sake has been saved to my desktop, and then click to select it. Once done, we can hit the OK button and our Exercise Files folder has now been set up to server as our root project folder. What we will find now is that whenever we use the application functions, we should find ourselves taken straight to the appropriate folder in our project root. Whenever we want to open up a style scene for instance, all we need do is use the Open command, which takes us straight to the Projects Scenes folder, and then from there, select the appropriate start scene file.
