There are a slew of mobile device manufacturers competing for shelf space, but just a handful have the lion's share of the market. In this lesson, you'll get an overview of that pride of lions and how to work with them to make your app roar. The top three spots in the global smartphone marketplace for 2013 go to Android with almost 79%. Apple with 15.5%, and Microsoft just over 3.5%. All the other systems combined make up just 2%. These figures, by the way, are from research by a company called Strategic Analytics, and a report which was released shortly before this course was recorded. As you might expect in this highly competitive landscape, each system is a combination of features. Common features like a contact list, camera, and email are those deemed to be baseline necessary.
