- [Instructor] Live has several midi effects that allow you to process a midi signal before it's routed to a virtual instrument. Let's take a look at how to add a midi effect to a midi track and learn to use Live's midi arpeggiator effect device. So let's go over to the browser and the midi effects category and let's grab this arpeggio device, and let's put it on this first track. So I'm going to drag it down here to the end of the device chain. When I do that, notice that it gives me a big message down there on the status bar at the bottom that says you can't do that. Insert midi effects before instruments. And if you look over on the left hand side of that analog virtual instrument plugin, you'll see a vertical orange line and that's showing me where I can add that midi effect. So I'll move my cursor over there. The line changes from orange to blue and I can release my mouse and add that effect to the track.
