Audio routing

As you plan the show and build an Ableton file full of amazing sounds to be unleashed on world. Figuring out how all these tracks will get out of the box and reach people's ears is a big part of the puzzle. How many outputs does your audio interface have? How many inputs does the sound engineer have for your rig? Who needs to hear what and when? Some if it can be planned ahead. Some of it will have to be discovered during rehearsals. But how you will choose to route your audio will definitely have an impact on the entire operation. If you're running click, the absolute bare bones minimum you need is two outputs. One for the click, the other one for all other audio in mono. This doesn't get you very far, but it can work in a pinch. If you have four outputs, you can use one for click, one for say, drum samples or loops. And two for a stereo pair of keyboards and everything else. The more outputs are available, the more separation can be achieved, as the audio is sent out of your system.…
