The first two things that Annie had in mind when she was putting together this configuration of the band and inviting me to be a part of it, were automated guitar patch switches and integrating drum triggers into the show. The guitar patch switching was a relatively straightforward task, even though we had to figure out how to work with her particular MIDI foot controller at that point. In the past, like all guitar players, she had to make every sound change by pushing a button on her pedal board with her feet. There's a lot of foot navigation that happens for guitar players, as we know. Because she's a very active guitar player, and the parts are very intricate, and there are many of them, and she's also singing pretty intricate stuff while she's playing guitar. It was becoming perhaps a bit too much to do all that and also connect with the audience and put on a great show.
