Compressors
- [Instructor] Many of my students tell me that they find compressors the most difficult audio effect to understand and use. So let's take a look at a couple of Live's compressors, discuss their parameters, and talk about some examples of when and how to use them. Compressors belong to that group of devices that we call dynamic processors. In addition to compressors that would include limiters and also expanders and gates. Now compressors are specifically used to narrow the dynamic range of a signal like a vocal so that it will sit in a mix or to even out the tacs of a rhythm guitar part or a funk base part. Or you can use them to bring out the attack of a kick or snare part. So let's start by grabbing this compressor that we see over here in the audio effects category, and let's drag and drop it on this kick track. And we can use this to talk about the parameters that we see here because this device has the kind of basic parameters that you would see in most compressors. So the…
