- [Instructor] Some software settings have a big impact on how your computer performs when using music and audio related programs. Let's take a look at how to configure the preferences that affect computer performance so that your system will work at a maximum efficiency when running Ableton Live. So I've got exercise three from chapter two open. And I'm going to go into preferences. That'll be under the live menu if you're on a Mac or under the options menu if you're on a PC. And I'm going to click the audio tab. Now, the main parameter that will affect system performance is the buffer size that we see here under the latency area. So the concept here is that computers work more efficiently when there's a chunk of data waiting for the moment that the CPU is ready for it. And the larger that chunk of data is, the more efficient the computer's going to operate. So we can control that with the buffer size setting. And that value is in a number of samples.
