- Now it's time to think about the mix. This is not a course on mixing, but it is a course on finishing things. And if you sit there worrying about the compression on your bass line, and fine-tuning that, and thinking that that's the key to super stardom, then I've got something to tell you. That's not the case. It's really important that you do things that sound good, and keep it simple. With mixing, if you've done things right, less is more. What I'm trying to tell you is that if you've composed your track and you've made good decisions with sounds that work well together right off the bat, mixing should be a cinch. You want to kind of beef up your sounds a little bit maybe, maybe make some final decisions on overall character, really tweak the balance so that it feels good, and then put some finishing touches on it. So I'm going to talk about some of the simple things that we can do. We already touched the kick drum and the snare drum, I don't really see much reason to change those…
