- Okay so this next technique is something that I do quite a bit of but I don't always use and it's also something that you may want to do before you start to build the sections that we spoke about in the previous video. What I've done here is I've actually imported a track to use as a reference for structure. I do this all the time as a professional producer and songwriter. If someone says, "Hey, I need a pop song," then one of the things that I like to do is analyze the structure of pop songs that I like just to get a bearing. I bet you didn't realize that in a lot of Katy Perry songs the second verse is actually a few bars shorter than the first one. It's something really interesting that they do that I would never have caught if I didn't do a little bit of analysis. You may be saying, "But Evan, "why would I want to steal someone else's structure? "I'm an individual." Yes, you are and that's great. Your mother was right.
