Programming drums, slicing an audio sample, and slicing to MIDI

- (Voiceover) Another classic approach to programming drums involves working with samples. Producers have been working with samples for years and there's some classic machines that were really common for chopping up drum loops like recording vinyl from your favorite records, chopping up the break and working with that in your track. One of these is the Akai MPC Series. So this was a classic sampler with sixteen pads and you could hook up your turn table and record some samples in from your favorite records slice them up, and then by the time you did that you'd be so tired that you'd go to sleep and then music the next day, but in Live we can take a sample and really within a minute have our sample sliced up, ready to go and we're still in the zone making music. So, for this example, I'm using a break. That's very common in drum and bass. Our tempo's 175 and let's play this break.
