Using a filter envelope to shape tone

- Using a filter to remove some harmonic content from a sawtooth or square wave is a great starting point. Next, let's take a look at how filter envelopes can be used to further shape tone in real time. Okay, so you're going to want to go to the Exercise folder and open up Chapter 1, Exercise 8: Filter Envelope. And let's check out in here what we've got. (dissonant tone) So, I've got two saw waves that are detuned a little bit, and it looks like we've got the detuning on. So, I'm going to click the Filter 1 shell, so we can look at the parameters there. And first, let's talk a little bit more about the cutoff frequency or frequency parameter. So, as I pull this down, the tone is going to darken, because I've got a low pass filter shape set here, so let's check that out. (dissonate tones) (tone changes timbre) So, when I pull that frequency setting down, really what I'm establishing is kind of the darkest that the tone is going to be.
