Using groove quantization
- [Instructor] Quantization is great for fixing rhythmic errors, but there's another option if adjusting or creating a sense of feel is your goal. Let's take a look at how you can use groove files to apply a rhythmic feel to both MIDI and audio clips. Let's start by defining what a groove file is. So they're essentially MIDI files that contain both timing and velocity attributes and they can be derived from a human performance, from a drum machine like a TR-808, or from an MPC player, and Live even contains groove files from other programs like Logic. Now if you want to access the groove files, the easiest way to do that is via their file extension in the browser. So I'm going to go to the search field here and click and I'm going to type .agr. Now I've already got the all results category selected and with that highlighted, the groove files pop up over here in the other pane in the browser.
