Ways to use compression

- Compression is the first thing that I will start with in my mix. Again, as I discussed very briefly in the first video for this chapter, it's a way to make things quieter by reducing your overall dynamic range. It, basically, to me is a tool that is great for making things fit like pieces of a puzzle. You can shape their dynamic behavior, with anything that you run through a compressor so that things are more balanced, controlled, consistent, and ultimately it does make it easier to mix after you've applied compression properly. So by altering or adjusting the way that a compressor reacts to an input signal, you can really make it either grab the signal and control it or you can just allow part of that to happen so 50% of the signal gets compressed and you can make things sound a little more dense, a little bigger, punchier, while still getting the original signal coming through. So this is best used if I wanna add punch to individual elements. I'm not a big fan of using compression…
