- [Instructor] One of my favorite parts of creating music is that there really aren't any rules. As I've said previously in my Logic Pro course for lynda.com, my own personal rule is always to try and get as close as possible to translating the sound I'm hearing in my head into the actual recording. In many cases, for me, this involves a lot of experimentation with audio plugins, analog synths or capturing sounds I hear while going for a walk and bringing them in to my DAW. However, in many electronic genres, there are some general guidelines for working within a specific genre. For example, tempo range, drum patterns, especially for the kick and the snare, mixing techniques, especially if you're gonna release music on vinyl, and other sound-like elements, like sub-bass or sound effects like pitched up vocals, or chants that can be prevalent in trap, but maybe not other genres.
