- [Instructor] What we've seen so far are the fundamental concepts and steps to recap in your bid. Here are a few more optional steps or considerations when closing your bid. It's a great idea to develop and maintain a checklist to use at the end of an estimate as a reminder of the items that sometimes may be overlooked or forgotten in an estimate. Use past experience, your knowledge of construction jobs, and even the input of other estimators and project managers to put this checklist together. Be disciplined and use it after every estimate, and you will be rewarded in the long run. Large quote markups. As you saw in the overhead and profit video, the markup calculations are applied to the whole project cost. In some cases, these markups are excessive and can make a bid or estimate non-competitive. For example, a 12% overhead markup on a very large supplier quote for a large piece of equipment, such as a large air handler or a giant scoreboard you're installing, might be too much…
