Compiling a takeoff
- [Instructor] By now all your take off sheets should be completed and extended, meaning the math should be done. Organize them, and number them in a logical order so they can be added up. All take offs should be complete and extended, and all other cost worksheets should also be extended and totaled. Be sure you have checked all of your material pricing with a current material pricing service or vendor's quotations. Keep in mind that some material has volatile pricing and may go up or down on a daily basis. It's important that we have the most accurate pricing to remain competitive. Clear your work area of all unnecessary documents not related to this construction estimate so you can focus on this recap. There's a lot going on during the final stages of an estimate, and it's best not to be distracted. Your full attention is needed during the bid recap process. A very small error could lead to your company not being successful in its attempt to win work. Let's take a look at the bid recap sheet and start filling in the information. Here you see the exercise sheet or really just the sheet that I made up. We can start filling in the information here. Let's say my first take off sheet was excavation. I had total labor of 110 hours and total material of $2,010. Enter it. Let's say the next sheet was concrete work. Maybe 300 hours and maybe $7,500 in material. Metal framing, 710 hours and $1,209 material. You kind of get the point here. I'm taking each take off sheet and taking the totals from the bottom and then putting them together on this bid recap.
