- [Instructor] There's some other elements to an estimate that are not listed on material takeoff sheets but are important items that are included in the cost of the job. Expenses, or, as they are sometimes called, direct job expenses are anything that you would spend money on in an effort to build a project but is not directly tied to material or labor pricing. Also, direct job expenses normally are associated with items that do not become attached to the job or structure. Some examples of direct job expenses are special insurances that you would need for a particular job, transportation costs and fuel, job site rentals, like office trailers and storage containers, like I said before, any items that are not attached to the building or project, specialty tools and consumable tools, temporary facilities, like temporary electricity or temporary heat, maybe temporary lighting.
