From the course: Construction Estimating Extension

Set your sheet up

- [Instructor] Remember, extension is the process of adding and multiplying all of the materials items and labor hours in the take off sheet so we can get total quantities and assign costs. Therefore, you should make sure your takeoff sheet has all the individual prices and labor units that are needed to multiply out. Let's take a look at our filled in take off sheet from the previous course and make sure that it's ready to go. We've got a few holes in this thing. Type F16 fixture, price, I don't have anything. Well, a lot of times light fixtures are a quoted item, part of a fixture package. So I don't necessarily have to have something there, but I should have labor. I'll put in 1.2 hours each. Vertical raceway, this has a price, $38 and 10 cents each. Should have a labor factor also, .7 hours each. Any other holes in here? Is it all ready to go? Ah, soil excavation. Soil excavation or digging doesn't really have a material price other than having a equipment cost, which we'll cover later, but there is no material price. So I'm going to leave that blank, and I do have a labor unit here. This is pretty much ready to extend. Let's go to the next step.
