Choosing a document type
- [Instructor] Whenever you need to begin a new project in Adobe Animate, you'll have to create a document and choose specific publish targets. When you launch Animate, you'll be greeted with this welcome screen. And through this screen, you're able to start a new file fast using various presets right here, but you can also choose create new to summon the new document dialogue. From here, you'll find a number of different categories with different presets within those categories and they each are going to target a specific platform type. One of the strengths of Animate is that it is a completely platform independent piece of software. While you'll see certain document types specify something like HTML5 canvas, ActionsScript 3.0, iOS, Android. These are only the set that are distributed as part of the software, which can be extended to support any target platform you desire. For this project, go ahead and choose the character animation category and the HD preset. This preset is 1,280 pixels in width and 720 pixels in height with a frame rate of 30 frames per second and targets ActionScript 3.0. If you're creating non-interactive content in Animate, this is most likely the best platform to choose. Let's go ahead and hit create. And our new document is established. Even though we are working with a specific target document type in Animate, it's a simple matter to convert between document types in order to reuse the assets and animations that we'll design.
