- [Instructor] Autocomplete is a pattern used to assist users in finding the term for the item they're looking for in real time. Recognition is easier than recall when it comes to our memory, and this pattern reflects this idea. Autocomplete refers to the behavior of typing two to three characters and seeing a real-time listing of results in the text input dropdown menu. The terms from the autocomplete are usually derived from the sites controlled vocabulary or the selected terminology that the site uses to describe their products or services. For example, vehicle and car can both be common terms, but the site might use one term over the other. Both terms can be used in the search to make sure people find what they're looking for.
