Copywriting: Words make all the difference

- [Illustrator] Just as important as the images and graphics on a screen, I would argue the words are even more important. As I told my students, it is the words that provide the user with access to understanding. This sort of underscores the importance of copywriting and words when it comes to UX design. Let me give you an example. Here are two buttons. They are both exactly the same, but the copy tells the user succinctly what each button does. The interesting difference is this. Both provide that access to understanding. Take away the words, and the user has no clue what that purple shape does. Let's be clear on one thing. The role of the UX copywriter is quite a bit different from that of a copywriter. And we're starting to see copywriters move into the UX field as they start going deeper into understanding the technologies, design and the research aspects of the UX design process.
