What I find fascinating about the newness of design systems is they aren't new, they've been around for decades. Only at that time they were known as corporate identity guidelines. These guidelines were compiled into actual books that laid down the corporate branding standards. For example, here is the H+ Sport corporate identity document in a condensed format. H+ Sport is a mythical company we use here at LinkedIn Learning. If one were to scroll through this document, you will see all of the main features of a design system are covered off. Such as logo use, typography and color, which are the primary focus. But it's also the little things like the spacing and size of the copyright symbol in the logo.
