Converting images to black and white

- [Instructor] Here's a colorful view of a fairground. But let's say we want to use this in a black and white newspaper. One way of turning it to black and white would be simply to bring up the hue and saturation dialogue and drag the saturation all the way down to the left, to take all the color out of it. But the problem with this is it leaves it all looking rather muddy. We need a method that gives us more control over the end result, so let's put this away and cancel that. Instead, go to layer, new adjustment layer, and choose black and white adjustment. And you see two things, first of all, the image looks really washed out, and secondly, we have this rather bizarre set of sliders and it's very difficult to know what to do with these. The good news is we can begin without touching the sliders at all. Click on the picker button and now we can click directly inside the image. If we click on the sky that we know is in the background of this top banner, that selects all the cyans. As…
