Modifying the image with Dodge and Burn

- [Instructor] Now that we've used the Threshold Adjustment to turn Marilyn into pure black and white, let's see how we can better balance those tones. We'll go onto the Marilyn layer and zoom in. If we grab the Burn tool, then we can set our Tonal Range to Midtones and let's paint over the dress. And as we do so, we can see how it's bringing much more detail back into it. This is a bit too extreme, so let's undo a couple of steps and change the Opacity to just 50%, and you can do this by pressing the number five on your keyboard. Now we get a bit more control, and we can build up the effect in short stages. As we drag, we darken those midtones selectively, so that we bring back all of the detail in this complicated dress just where we want it. If it goes a bit too far, hold down Alt or Option, which gives you the opposite tool. In this case, it gives us the Dodge tool, and this lightens up, so we can go back over the too-dark places and brighten them up a little. Let's make our brush…
