Shadows and highlights

- [Narrator] Here's a photograph of a landscape with trees, some foliage, and a sky. But the cameras had a lot of difficulty adjusting the exposure to match both the sky and the trees, and the result is that both are wrong. The sky is too washed out and the trees are too dark. We can fix this easily using Affinity Photo's Shadows and Highlights filter. As we drag the shadows slider, it brightens up the shadows. And you can see quite clearly as we drag, they are getting brighter and brighter. As well as the strength of the shadows adjustment, we can also look at the range. And this selects the tonal range. So as we move it to the right, a greater range of shadows is boosted, and to the left, a smaller range. And so while the trees remain about the same, as we drag it to the right, you can see the field in front of it getting brighter and darker as we slide it right and left. The radius control looks at the area around dark pixels that are analyzed when it boosts those shadows. If we…
