Using Edge Detection for sharpening

- [Instructor] Here's an interesting piece of architecture but it's not very clear and I want to boost the edges to make the architecture really stand out. But at the same time, I don't want to degrade the rest of the image. Now a standard way of doing this would be to go to Filter, Sharpen, and Unsharp Mask. And here we could increase the Factor and the Radius and while it does sharpen up those edges, but it also makes the whole image look very unreal. So that's not the best way to do it here. Because I only want to sharpen the edges, I'm gonna start by duplicating this layer and now I'll go to Filter, Detect, and Detect Edges. Now you can see that all the edges are highlighted in white but the large areas of stone are left largely alone. And that means we can use this layer to determine the area on which the Unsharp Mask filter operates. For now, let's hide this. Go back to our original layer and we'll duplicate it once more. Let's add a Live Filter Layer and we'll choose Unsharp…
