- You're watching some of my shots from an old TV movie called Superfire that was sort of my own trial by fire. This project taught me a lot about working with fire and smoke in After Effects, and many of those fundamentals still hold up today. So in this lesson I'm going to show you three ways to better embed this pretty nice looking fire that we've already got going here. The first one is pretty simple, and it corresponds to the shots you just saw of trees, so you can't always get away with just a soft mask around your fire, so I've created another layer, and if I solo it, it's just the foreground with the equivalent of some topology matted out, now I wasn't very careful about this, it doesn't matter, because it's going to fool your eye if it just looks like it has the right amount of detail, so if I do a after and before, you can just see that now that fire is embedded behind some dirt, so it's a little bit more contained, and that's how you deal a little bit more precisely with…
