Adding a solid layer for effects

- [Instructor] Solids are an interesting kind of layer. They can, of course, be a solid color. They can also do so much more and in fact, they're an essential part of compositing and special effects, as you're about to see. Well, I've got to be honest, just to say expectations, the level of special effects (laughs) that we'll do in this one is somewhat low, right? You're not going to be going out and making the next super hero movie with it, or (laughs) very unlikely. Anyway, to get a new solid layer, we go up to the Layer menu, down to New and then choose Solid. When you get this dialogue, you can call it whatever you like, I'm going to call it "Chippings" for reasons that will become apparent shortly. You can determine a size for it if that's important. This happens to be the comp size, but if it wasn't and I wanted it to be, I've got a handy button just there.
