Adjusting focus in the background

- Photoshop offers several controls that can help you adjust depth of field during post-production. Let's explore some of the different blur filters and how they can be applied. I'll open up all three images here from folder 75, focus. And let's start with a simple one here. In this case, the photo seems too in focus. Well I'm just going to duplicate that background layer. Cmd, or ctrl, J can do that. And I'll choose filter, blur. I recommend the lens blur option. This allows you to adjust the radius of the blur. In this case, the photo had a little bit a border to it, so don't worry about that extra color. It's just been rotated and straightened, but those extra pixels are sticking out beyond the visibile layer. You can change the shape of the blur, and one of my favorites is to bring up the brightness of the specular highlights and then lower the threshold so that bright areas actually start to bloom, which is pretty cool.
