- [Instructor] We're now going to start looking at different effects shots from the assurance in each chapter, starting here with the little shot of Towny's magic forming offscreen. Before jumping into the techniques I use, let's back up a little bit and talk about how to approach a visual effects shot like this. Let's look at the raw footage here. What do we like about what's working already? What's missing? And perhaps most importantly, how does this shot fit into the story? What needs to be clear in this shot from a story perspective? What do we want the audience to feel about this shot? In this case, we need to feel like she has some mystical, magical power that she can create. This light, by itself, just with the cellphone that we shot practically, it doesn't convey that on its own.
