Depth passes for 3D comps

- [Instructor] If we have 3D layers in our composition, After Effects can give us the distance of layers along the z-axis in what's referred to as a depth pass. We can then nest that composition and extract the depth pass to utilize various 3D channel effects. Let's see how we can use the depth pass in this example. Here in this composition, I've got some footage of my guitar, and you can see it's got a fairly shallow depth of field. And I wanted to add some various highlights to the components to call them out. So, I've created this info comp, that has several 3D layers, and if I tap C on the keyboard you can see how far apart I've spread the layers. Now I've also extracted a 3D camera. And if I view through it, it should match up with our footage. Let's step back to our main composition, and add the info as a precomp. And the only thing that's missing here is the depth of field of course. You can see that the word fretboard for instance, is fairly legible and the footage itself is…
