- Earlier we talked about using raw photos for background plates. Raw files are great, because they have a lot flexibility. Let's explore opening a raw file using Adobe Photoshop. This will make it a lot easier to process the image. Using Photoshop I'll choose File, Open. I can now navigate to the desired image. I've downloaded the Exercise Files to my desktop, so I'll go there and jump into folder 7. I'm going to start with 7_1 Raw and select these three raw files and click Open. You'll see in this case that the files are brought in. The DNG file is a raw file that's been rewrapped into the Adobe format. That's why its settings are preserved within the file. For example, if I don't want the detail to be so high I can lower the Clarity a little bit, and jump on over to the Sharpening tab here, and reduce that some, and you see it simplifies.
