- [Voiceover] Working with materials and lighting are probably the two most challenging aspects of working in 3-D, but also the most creatively inspiring. Good materials and lighting can transform a project with good modeling and key framing into a great piece of film-making or animation. So many different looks and styles can be applied to your models and scenes to change their appearance and create mood or atmosphere. And learning to control these material options is the first step towards really making your scene come to life. Now, materials are made up from several channels. Each channel contributes something unique to the material. For example, the Bump channel adds texture. The Transparency channel controls the opacity of the material. And the Luminance channel adds glow or lighting effects. We'll have a look at these channels later on in this chapter.
