- [Instructor] In this chapter we'll add a stream of particles to our scene but before showing you what buttons to press I want to take a moment and explain the concept of particles and how they work inside After Effects. So, what is a particle system? Well a technique that uses a large number of small graphic objects to simulate certain kinds of phenomena which are otherwise very hard to reproduce with conventional animation techniques. To illustrate this I've chosen a particle emitter that everyone is familiar with, a fire extinguisher. When you press the handle you control the particle amount and their longevity. Each particle, a foam or powder in this case, has a life duration also known as birth and death. It also has size and color and can be affected by light which is shading. Then the entire system respond to one or more physics models such as gravity, or air, which is wind or turbulent. Or bounce that…
