Parenting character parts
- [Instructor] Parenting in After Effects involves connecting one layer to another. The result of that connection sees the child layer inheriting all the transform properties from the parent, including position, scale, and rotation. Parenting can see several child layers pointing to one parent layer. It can also form more complex hierarchies where parent layers are parented to yet another layer. Here in this movie, we'll see how we can set up a hierarchy using parenting. Here in this example, I've got my character, who's seated in front of a computer, and he may or may not be working in After Effects. He might be an animator. I leave that up to you. But he is comprised of several different Illustrator layers. Now before we move on with the parenting process, I do want to maximize the screen real estate here.
