Per-character 3D type animation

- One of my favorite effect in this collection is the BCC Tyoe On Text effect. This is a semi-automatic plugin that can create per-character 3D type that fly in or out of the frame. We'll use this effect to animate the final line of text in this commercial. So to create our closing line text shot, with each per-character 3D type animation, we are going to use the BCC Tyoe On Text effect. And in order to apply this effect you'll need a black video. So I'm going to use this one under the source files folder. I'm just going to drag and drop it above all the other layers and I'm going to trim it to start three frames after the last title over here which is of course the first yogurt. So I'm going to select this black video, go to the Effects panel. I'm going to trill down the Video Effects and under the BCC10 3D Objects, I'm going to apply the last effect over here, BCC Type On Text. This will automatically launch the title editor. So let's just highlight the words Boris FX and instead I'm going to type in Blasting New Flavours. I'm going to highlight the whole text and format it the same way that we did so far. So from the font menu over here I'm going to choose Arial Rounded MT Bold and I'm going to reduce each size to let's start with 48 pixels. Then I'm going to click Apply. This will place the text in the middle of the screen here. First I'm going to open up the Render settings and raise the polygon count to 45. This will render a better result, a crispier text. Then let's modify the Extrusion, since those are very tiny letters I'm just going to extrude them maybe just one unit and then I want to choose a different bevel style so instead of straight let's choose the Convex style. Now we can close this section and we can raise this text up by trilling down the transformation and then playing just with the Position Y and I think it should be somewhere over here but just to be safe, I'm going to show the safe margins so we can see how this text is going to appear on screen. So this is exactly inside the boundaries of the titles, which is great. So let's trill this up and now let's work on the material. So I'm going to open it up and then I'm going to choose two sets of materials, one for the front and the back and the other one for the bevel inside. For the front diffuse I'm just going to choose a bright-white color. And to choose a color for the bevel, I'm going to use the eyedropper over here and try to sample one of the colors from the yogurt. But I want to show you what will happen for you if you're going to do so, sometimes, because we are using a black video, Premiere Pro is actually showing us the underneath layer so we can't really sample from anything below. So in order to fix it I'm just going to press escape. I'm going to click on this color swatch and I'm going to use this picker over here which will allow me to sample this shade of an unsaturated purple. All right, so let's just close everything that we've already finished to modify. And now let's animate it using the Type On Effect. So I'm going to enable the Do Refill Effect for the Type On and then I'm going to open it up and I'm going to change a few settings. Now, just so you see how this is going to affect, let's park at the beginning over here then I'll scroll down until we can see the Rotate X, Y and Z. I'm going to change the Rotate X to 100 and then I'm going to tab to Rotate Y and change it to -180. Then for the Rotate Z, I'm going to choose 45. Now, we can see that those letters are hanging on the floor which kind of looks strange so I also need to animate the scale as well. I'm going to set it to zero and then of course the effect is going to use the Reveal Time Overlap and Animation settings in order to expose it. So if I'm just going to play the result, this is how it looks right now. I think that we may need a different animation graph so let's set it to Decelerate and I'm also going to exaggerate the Overlap settings, so instead of 100, let's try 500 and to check how this looks, let's place the CTI over here and press play. And this is much more pleasing. So let's try it once again, this is a lot of stuff trying to play in real-time, so sometimes you need to play it twice in order for Premiere to recache those frames. All right, I don't think that we need the title safe anymore so I'm just going to turn off the Safe Margins. But I do want to animate these titles slightly. So let's go to actually the Motion tab over here. We'll start with a value of 80 for the scale, create a keyframe then go all the way to the end and set it back to 100. Now the only thing that we need to modify is of course the Anchor point where the animation is going to take place from and you can actually do it after the effect so grab these anchor points and just place it above the E in this case, and I'm also going to select both of those keyframes, right-click on them and choose Bezier. Okay and let's see how this is going to look. And I think that we have something that we can proud of. However, when I look at it from the beginning, I sense there's the last title that we've just added needs some emphasize, so to do it I'm going to actually create some sort of a glow and I'm going to do it the old-fashioned way. Just so you can see another way to work if you want to create glows from your titles. So I'm going to make more room to work here by dragging down these horizontal line then let's select the black video with the titles, hold down Option or Alt on the PC and drag another copy above it. I'm going to select this copy and first I'm going to open up the BCC Type On Text effect and what I like to do is change the material for the front. So I'm just going to open it up and once again, I want to sample this muted-violet color. So I'm going to click on the word Diffuse, use the eyedropper from here and sample the same color and this of course will change the front material of this instance and now I'm going to go to the Effects panel and search for the Fast Blur effect. I'm actually going to use the built in one. Drag and drop it on top of this video. And then I'm going to set the blurriness to say, 30. And I'm going to change the Blend Mode of the whole layer from Normal to Screen. And this way, if I'm just going to show you the result in full-screen, we can see that we have a nice glowing effect to our letters and of course all the animation is being preserved since we are duplicating the same layer. Now this is too much to play in real-time, so I'm just going to pause on this frame so you can get a sense of how the final result is going to appear on screen. And so this is how you can use the BCC Type On Text effect. A very useful one which can help you to auto-animate your titles and if you like to, you can also edit this glow which is based on another copy with the Blur effect as well as the Screen blending mode.
