Positioning the background in Z space
- If you'd like some more control over the background, you can actually promote it to 3D space. This will allow you to add a virtual camera in After Effects where you can start to control the depth of field and eventually add lights to the scene. Let's do that with this composition here. I'll click the cube icon to make the layers exist in 3D space. I'll then choose Layer, New, Camera, and you could add a camera to the scene. Typically, a 50 millimeter camera with Depth of Field enabled is a good choice. Now, you'll notice that depth of field initially blurs everything out. Let's take a look at two views here and we need to make a few changes. I'll set this to Custom View 1. When we look at the camera, we have to adjust the depth of field controls. What's important is that the depth of field is set in the correct place. So, I need to move the Focus Distance. You'll see, as that focus distance comes into play, eventually the picture starts to get sharp. So, we can adjust that focus…
