- [Instructor] Now, there's a few things that will affect how this ball moves in terms of timing. There's the speed, in which it's thrown. There's the resistance. So, resistance could be something like wind or it could be particles in the air stopping it moving through the air quickly, and then, there's damping force we looked at earlier, and that's the ground kind of soaking up some of the energy from the ball. Other things that are important to look at are mass and weight. So, mass is the amount of physical matter contained in an object, and it's determined by a combination of weight, size, or volume and composition. A cannonball is smaller than a beach ball, but it has more mass because it's made of solid, dense metal. Compare this to a beach ball made from a thin membrane of plastic and largely consists of air.
