Smoothing gradients to remove banding

- If you've ever compressed a video to be viewed on the web, or just built a graphic with a very soft gradient, you may have noticed a crunchy looking effect occur. Many designers and editors describe this effect as banding, since it creates rather chunky looking bands of color. There are a couple of different ways we can fix this. We can add color depth to the project, we can scatter a setting within the gradient ramp settings, or we could just add a little bit of noise into the project. So if you look at our project, you can see I've got my O2 molecules here, and some waves, and there's a very subtle gradient. Just so we can see it more clearly, I'm gonna change the magnification in my Composition panel up to 100% which is gonna zoom us into the scene, and I'll go down here on Layer 8 which is my Dark Gray Solid. I'll select that layer, then go up to my Effect Controls. In here, you can see I have a Gradient Ramp that's been applied, and it has two different colors. They're very…
