- [Instructor] What if you could work with and create full 360 virtual reality shots right in After Effects? With the acquisition of the immersive authoring tool set, formerly known as metal sky box, you can now do just that. Here's how to get started with 360 degree footage in After Effects. So, why does this shot look so bizarre? This is what's commonly known as equirectangular footage. It's shot for VR and has been flattened out to display in a single frame. Now, if you're not familiar with that word equirectangular, you can look it up on Wikipedia, and the example that you'll be given is actually probably pretty familiar to you. So, this map is projected equirectangularly onto a flat plane, making these nice squares, and the way it does that, is by stretching out the areas that are closer to the poles.
