- So during the concepts development stage of surfacing there may be a time where you have to grow or extend a surface just to visually see if this would fit within a package. So I'm not concerned about creating a true, class a surface, what we want to do is get a visual representation. So let's take a look at this front hood here, and I'm going to Shade this up. So we can go ahead, we can pick this hood and you'll notice that the pivot point is at the very front of the hood there. So if I go ahead into the LEFT view and I need to stretch this hood out in the x direction, so what we can do is we can go to Transform, and we can go to Scale, and I can use my MMB and I can stretch. But you can see what's happening here it stretches in a very strange, uncontrolled manner. Well it is controlled because what Scaling does it actually takes the model and tries to scale it towards the pivot point, and as I get closer and closer eventually it will become completely flat.
