Using the insert edge loop

- [Lecturer] Let's take a look at how we can insert edges into our sub div entities. So I'm just going to go into, hardware shade, S, or you can use any of the shaders under diagnostic shading, that you want to. So let's open up the command, and we're going to look at the first option, which is perpendicular. And we're going to take a look at edge flow and the offset mode which is relative and distance, and a parameter value. So, we have relative selected, so the options that we have are parameter. If we have distance selected, then the options switches to distance. So let's go with relative perpendicular, and we're going to pick this edge down here. So pick the edge, and with perpendicular, the inserted edge is perpendicular to the edge that isolated. If I switched to parallel, and I picked that edge, it becomes parallel to my preselected edge. Personally, I actually like the perpendicular option better. So with perpendicular, what I would have to do in this case, is switched to this edge down here. For me, it just makes more sense, but again that's just preference. So you can slide the edge along, and as I'm sliding you can watch your parameter values change here, or, you can change this to exactly, for example, point five. Now, if I go into a side view, or the left view. You'll notice that as I do change this, it's changing the overall shape of this particular entity. If I put on edge flow, you'll notice that the shape changes again. Now with edge flow, what it's trying to do is be more sympathetic to the curvature on this side, and the curvature on that side, and trying to do a better blend between the two. So it's trying to capture the shape of the original entity better. So if I do, edge flow off. You'll notice as I come up like this, that's not anywhere like the original shape. Edge flow on, it tries to do a better job, of capturing that original shape. So let's go back into more of an isometric view like this, and, we're now going to switch to, parallel mode. So let's control Z. Go back to where we were originally, and now in parallel mode, I'm going to go ahead and pick this edge down here. Now with parallel mode, what I've got here is the option to do both sides, at the same time. And that's because I've got both selected here. Now, remember with perpendicular, you don't have this option, it only becomes available with parallel. So control Z, parallel, pick this edge, and then slide, and we have the option to add edges on both sides of my preselected edge. And again, I can change the values here. Point five. I can go to edge flow, and edge flow, in this case, will do the same thing as we discussed earlier. Which gives me the ability to try to capture and be more sympathetic to the overall shape, as I'm adjusting the location like this.
