Broad network access

- [Narrator] Another characteristic that needs to be in place in order for us to refer to our IT environment as a cloud, is broad network access. Broad network access means that the cloud customer or tenant, whoever's consuming a service, does not manage the IT service infrastructure. And as a result, this means that that IT service runs in a provider data center somewhere and is therefore accessible to the consumer over a network. Now that network could be an intranet in the case of a private cloud. A private cloud, of course, means that we have the infrastructure that's owned and used by a single organization as opposed to the public cloud, which is accessible to potentially anybody that wants to sign up with an account over the internet. Either way, public or private cloud, broad network access would apply service accessibility over a network from any type of device. You might have users working from a number of different locations and the same cloud services are accessible just using different types of devices from different locations. So, users might be working from home with laptops, users might be out working in the field with a smartphone or a tablet, or they might be working from within a corporate network environment, or we might have IoT medical devices that send data into the cloud. So here, we're looking at a number of different types of client devices that can be used to access the exact same cloud services. So, broad network access then allows for cloud service accessibility over a network using any type of device.
