- [Instructor] Amazon CloudWatch is an AWS service that allows you to monitor resources and applications you run on AWS in real time. In addition to this, you can also use CloudWatch to monitor estimated charges for every AWS service you use, and configure billing alarms for your AWS account. When enabled, the estimated charges are calculated and sent several times daily to CloudWatch as metric data. Though billing metric data represents charges across all regions, it is stored only in the US East, North Virginia, region. The billing alarm triggers when your account billing exceeds the configured threshold. Now let's take a look at the steps required to configure a billing alarm. Before you can create a billing alarm, you need to enable billing alerts. Doing so allows you to monitor your estimated AWS charges and create an alarm using the billing metric data.
