EC2 Spot Instances

- (Instructor) While on-demand pricing for EC2 instances, is an excellent choice for applications with unpredictable workloads, spot instances are a cost-effective choice if your applications are flexible about when they can run and if they can be interrupted. A spot instance is an unused EC2 instance available for less than the on-demand pricing, allowing you to lower your Amazon EC2 costs significantly. They use the same underlying hardware as on-demand instances and are best suited for fault-tolerant, flexible workloads. Examples include applications that perform data analysis bat jobs, background processing, and optional tasks. To use spot instances, you start by creating a spot instance request which includes the maximum price that you're willing to pay per hour per instance.
