- [Instructor] Amazon Elastic Block Store, also known as EBS, provides persistent, block-level storage for EC2 instances. It is a critical resource for operating systems and applications running on top of them. To ensure that your applications are operating at desired efficiency, ensure that you understand your workload requirement and select the appropriate EBS volume type, and monitor your EBS volumes for performance. EBS volumes are available and different types, such as solid state drives, also known as SSD, and hard disk drives, also known as HDD. AWS further classifies SSD drives as general purpose SSD drives, that provide a balance of performance and price and are suitable for low latency workloads, and provisioned IOPS drives.
